Move from tgz to deb

Hi,

I’m running Openfire 3.4.1 installed from tgz. I use Debian and would prefere to use the deb. What is the best practice to migrate ?

install deb and then connect it to an old DB (or copy old db to a new installation, if you are using embedded one)
