Move Openfire from Windows to Linux

I am looking into moving my Openfire server from a windows platform to a Linux VM on ESXi.

  1. Interested to know what Linux distributions seem to be best for openfire.
  2. Wondering if my current openfire server. configuration and data can be “ported” to the new Linux based openfire server.

Any information, suggestions, comments welcome

I would choose Ubuntu\Debian. Rpm works, but i think deb installer is more polished. As a platform to run Openfire on i don’t know of any specific advantages to use one distro or another.
