I have seen that your “competitor” Ejabberd included MQTT protocol inside the gateway, as alternative option respect to XMPP.
The idea is not so weird, do you have similar plan for Openfire ?

No plans that I am aware of. If somebody has money to support its implementation, engaging the professional support folks would be a good idea.
