MSN: Windows Woes, Linux Lovely. Why?

Hi all,

I don’t even know if I should post this…as I just learned about the ‘kraken.jar’ and don’t know if I should replace my gateway.jar with kraken.

Symptoms

My symptoms lie with MSN connections:

  • With linux, I can connect and send messages back and forth to MSN
  • With windows I cannot

Setup

  • Openfire 3_6_4

  • Gateway 1.2.4d

  • Behind firewall

  • bin/openfire.vmoptions identical on both platforms (see below);

**Debug Log Output
**

A confession: I do not know how to interpret the debug log. On windows I see these:

First:

2009.08.07 10:53:38 MSN: Session messageReceived for participateim2@hotmail.com : CVR 2 14.0.8064 14.0.8064 8.1.0178 http://msgr.dlservice.microsoft.com/download/5/2/E/52EB299A-E4DE-43E2-8D55-510D7 FB03610/en/wlsetup-cvr.exe http://download.live.com/?sku=messenger

Then a few seconds later:

Second:

2009.08.07 10:53:59 MSN: Exception occurred for participateim2@hotmail.com : java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect
2009.08.07 10:53:59 MSN: IO error: java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect
2009.08.07 10:53:59 Disconnecting session myparticipate@milbratz620.outstart.com from msn.milbratz620.outstart.com

On linux I do see the first message, but not the second.

Interpretation?

It seems to me the following:

Appendix A. openfire.vmoptions

Https

-Dhttps.proxyHost=proxyc.outstart.com
-Dhttps.proxyPort=3128

Http

-Dhttp.proxyHost=proxyc.outstart.com
-Dhttp.proxyPort=3128

An update:

I’ve downloaded kraken.jar (1.1.0) and have the same problem with windows

gateway/kraken:

fails at work (behind proxy firewall)

works at home (no firewall)

I can tell you with absolute certainty that MSN works in windows with both plugins you mention. I would suggest there is something wrong on the windows machines more than the plugin. It could be the client software is having an issue or the OS of the machine.
