Newbie question: Invalid username or password

Have never used Wildfire or Spark before…

Just finished installing Wildfire on a server, connection to MySQL works fine as does admin access to config/users/groups screens. Opened ports 5222 and 5223 on the firewall. Confirmed that DNS resolves to the correct address.

Installed Spark on client machine (access via Internet). Every attempt to connect results in “Invalid username or password.” Confirmed username and password. Turned off client side firewall. Have tried several “versions” of server names and used direct IP address: i.e.

error log is:

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: protocol = socket host = null

Not sure where to go from here. I would appreciate any suggestions… even basic ones like how to check that I can tap the Wildfire server from outside the firewall.

let’‘s assume that your address is and you did specify this as the xmpp.domain or server name during installation. If you did select a server name with an underscore or space character in it you’'ll get problems.

Does “telnet 5222” work? If it fails you should check your firewall.

Can you create a new account using Spark, enter as server and as user foo with password bar? Just avoid any special characters here.
