Openfire 4.3.0 Log View

#1

After the upgrade from 4.2.3 to 4.3.0 Openfire stop logging.

In the Log View page, no logs are stored and in the log path in the server the log files are empty.

Openfire 4.3.0, Ubuntu Server 16.04, Mysql 5.7

I’ve seen another report about logs not being generated (and logs files not being created) i think also on Ubuntu. At first it seemed like a permission issue, but not sure now. Where are your Openfire logs located in the system? Also what path does it shows in Admin Console when you are in the logs view? Between Clear button and the actual logs view (Log dir: …). @gdt could it be some side effect of logging change from log4j to log4j2? It works ok on Windows. Haven’t see reports for other Linux distributions. Maybe only Debian/Ubuntu affected. One report is about Mint, which is still Ubuntu based.

Also, do you have the same files in your /openfire/lib folder? Maybe some files that are not on that list?

#4

In the meantime logged as https://issues.igniterealtime.org/browse/OF-1676

#5

Hmm, it’s most likely we’ve missed a setting in a Debian specific startup file, by the sounds of it. I’d need to spin up a server to be sure, but right now it may be a while before I get to look at it.

@RuiSimoes - I’m not familiar with a typical layout on Ubuntu, but somewhere there is probably a file called openfire.init.d - try adding the following:

-Dlog4j.configurationFile=${DAEMON_DIR}/lib/log4j2.xml

to the set of DAEMON_OPTS - so line 47 becomes something like (note the line ends in space followed by backslash)

DAEMON_OPTS="$DAEMON_OPTS -server -DopenfireHome=${DAEMON_DIR} -Dlog4j.configurationFile=${DAEMON_DIR}/lib/log4j2.xml \

I made the changes in /etc/init.d/openfire and now the logs came back.
This is the solution in Ubuntu Linux for the missing logs.
Thanks alot.

#8

It should be fixed in 4.3.1 https://github.com/igniterealtime/Openfire/pull/1270/files
