It seems to be rather random, at least so far, but after updating the server, the Spark client cannot see the conference service to join the Group Chatroom. If you enter the address manually(conference.domain.com) and hit enter, the Spark client finds the rooms. Is this a thing with Openfire 5.0.1? I have restarted the server and everything. It just doesn’t appear to be Announcing the services. Did not have this issue with 4.9.2. The update went smoothly, and only a few people have mentioned the problem. Restarting Spark also does not fix the issue. Only bringing up the Conferences tab and enter the service name and hitting enter will show the Group Chats.
Hi Thank you for reading my post …
I have a Debian Server with version level 11 bullseye kernel 5.10.0-32-amd64 and openfire 4.9.2.
For a few weeks I have been trying to upgrade to v5.0.0 and then v5.0.1 and the same result console and client connections become unavailable.
I am using the .deb installer - mainly so I can roll back to 4.9.2 deb when it fails.
Is there something I am missing why it is not taking the upgrade?
Thank you in advance for any docs or faqs you can point me to.
@Anthony_R Have you verified that Openfire is running, after the upgrade? There’s a known problem with the autostart in versions 5.0.0 and 5.0.1.
As a workaround, try:
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable openfire
sudo systemctl restart openfire
thank you - will take a look tonight if i get the time and get back to you
Solution to that thread seems to have fixed my problems as well. Removed the Avatar Resizer plugin and the Conference Service is auto-detected and all Group Chats are available. Also, I was unaware, but some users were also having the disconnect/reconnects problems listed in the linked thread.
Thank you Guus - that worked - Spark clients and console working - just my pidgin is not working which i’ll work on
ok so officially v5.0.1 has broken xmpp - none of my Pidgin clients can connect anymore - only Spark - which is ugly in linux - great for windows clients
this is re. upgrade to v5.0.1 openfire
is anyone else having this issue ? or just me?
- I disabled IPv6 on the server but still can connect via Pidgin.
