when I click preferences menu item nothing happens.

Can you update to the newest Java version (1.6.0u26) or install the full installer (not the online one)? Some errors are about old java version. Another solution would be to wipe out your profile (
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Spark or C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Spark)
and start with a new profile and setting your Preferences again.

I’ve found the trouble. I was installing rpm package on debian with alien. After installing .deb from nightly builds it worked correctly. Older java was probably packages in rpm, since I am running a most recent one on my system.
