Questions that cannot answered from documentation

hey guys,

ive got some questions about jive messenger server. first, where will the offline messages be stored? we want to run jive messenger for the whole university, so we have to know if they are only stored in memory or if there is a file where the msg’'s going until they are ready for submit to the “before offline user”.

next question is about ldap access and storage of uncrypted passwd on harddisk or memory. does jive only access ldap to get the user and passwd, check them and remove them from memory or will they stored on harddisk ?

sry for bad english first only got 5years of 3hour per week lessons in school…

thnx for reading, special thnx for those who give answers…

ive got some questions about jive messenger server.

Offline messages are stored in the database.

next question is about ldap access and storage of

on harddisk ?

Jive Messenger doesn’'t store the plain password in memory or on disk. After it checks the password against LDAP, the password is “forgotten”. As long as your users are using SSL to connect to the server, this system is pretty secure.

No problem, it’'s was very easy to understand your questions.

thx for those answers i`m currently at school but in 3 hours i will go to work and setup a testing machine with jive messenger for testing with some known people. yesterday another question appears. in which dimensions should we setup this server machine? in testing stage we only take an old machine and see how stable it would run.

the main usage at the current moment comes from prefessors who wants to chat with their study group. after this and if jive messenger will run stable, we want to give the whole campus access to this service.

so here comes the next question. if someone wants to put files through to another, will jive only open the connection for those two clients and the traffic goes only over line, or has the jive messenger server to put those files through over his eth0?

thx for reading and with best regards from germany
