I run Linux on some non i386 platforms (PPC and AMD64) as well as some other odd varrients of Unix. While I could try and hack the “Linux & Unix” release, it would be nice to have a *nix release without the JRE or any native code in it. I understand that some nice features might get lost (like the gtk libs, systray, etc) but I would be willing to live without those to free myself from any particular CPU

did you mean a “Java” release which just requires Java and nothing else? This is something I’'d love to see.
