I actually have an implementation of JEP-55 that allows searching on names ready to go. I’'m planning on expanding the search capabilities to support mulitple criteria (namely usernames and email) in the next couple of days.
Matt has requested, and I completely agree with him, that this feature should be released as a plugin. Unfortunately, I haven’‘t been able to make it work as one. I’‘m hoping that I’'ll be able to get that issue sorted out shortly so that the plugin can be released.
Ryan thanks for your answer. Please let us know when
your plugin is ready so we can test it …
I will for sure do so.
But on the other hand, is there no way to search for
users in a pure Messenger installation ?
No, not currently. Paul wrote a small Perl url=http://www.jivesoftware.org/forums/thread.jspa?forumID=40&threadID=13828&mes sageID=94376𗂨script that generates a static page that contains info on all users. You could use that or it would be fairly trivial to do the same thing in Java using the Messenger API.
The search plugin is ready to go but there is an issue with how Messenger works with external components (see url=http://www.jivesoftware.org/forums/message.jspa?messageID=94852#94852this post for more info) so I haven’‘t released it yet. I apologize for the delay. I’'ll post the plugin just as soon as the necessary changes have been made to Messenger.
