Hello!

Is there any plan to make Spark a combined Voip/Jabber Client like GoogleTalk or GIZMO for example?

Spark is really great but considering loading yet another client (= Softphone) onto my PC seems a little bit questionable. Especially when “half of the taskbar” starts flashing when someone calls in…

Our plans are the following:

  • Support Jingle in Open Source Spark. This will enable PC to PC calls.

  • Deep telephony integration as part of Enterprise (commercial). This will allow Spark to act as a SIP phone and to answer normal phone calls, among other things.

Thanks for disclosing this to us.

So I assume that even the open source version would be able to be used as a softphone by means of some telephony server like asterisk or the like. Their 1.4 release will bring Jabber/Jingle support so this look like cool times ahead…
