Spark client cannot reach server

Last night, we had to rebuild the server (Windows 2008 R2) that runs Openfire. Now everything looks good at the server – locally installed Spark client connects to Openfire and sees user database through LDAP connection. But at workstations, I get the message “Can’t connect to server: invalid name or server not reachable.” Pinging the server by name and by IP is successful. Tried stopping firewall on workstation and on server and reinstalling client software – no love. What would you suggest I try next?

sounds like a firewall issue. from a workstation, see if you can connect to the server on using telnet on port 5222; if you can’t, than its likely a firewall/network related issue.

You nailed it once again, Sir Speedy. We set an allow rule for openfired.exe and we are back in business.
