I am using Kubuntu 8.04, and cannot get my Spark to make sounds while in KDE. While in gnome (ALSA, Pulseaudio and ESD), everything makes sounds and I can hear Spark just fine.
Under KDE (ALSA, artsd), I can hear other noises and music just fine, but Spark is oddly silent.
Has anyone else had this problem, or is there a way to ‘wrap’ the sound output so that arts can play it?
I have tried aoss and the pulse alsa wrapper.
Thank you in advance for any response.

Well, I feel more than a little silly. I figure it out as soon as I post here.
I had arts running in the background, but the only thing using it was the system notifications for KDE.
To correct, I:
-
Opened up the control center
-
Went to the ‘Notifications’ option and clicked the ‘Player Settings’ button in the bottom right.
-
I set it to use an external player (in my case /usr/bin/mplayer).
-
Apply->OK, then checked that my sound system was set to ALSA (it was).
-
Lastly, I killed artsd and presto! sounds from Spark worked properly!
Hope this helps someone else!
