Trouble running Openfire on OS X Sierra

I’m having issues installing/running Openfire on Mac OS X Sierra.

Install seems to go as expected.

Then when I enter System Preferences (and it restarts as it is won’t to do) I see the Status is Stopped.

I click Start Openfire and it asks for my password and gives me a ‘May take a while…’ message then gives an error ‘Error! Could not start the Openfire server.’.

When I subsequenty try to start it either gives the same error message or crashes System Preferences.

Console shows:
Jul 6 15:40:23 minii7 com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (org.jivesoftware.openfire[1916]): Service could not initialize: Unable to set current working directory. error = 2: No such file or directory, path = /usr/local/openfire/lib: 16G1408: xpcproxy + 11215 [1386][1E2A2740-D4E5-342E-A502-4792BD02598D]: 0x2
Jul 6 15:40:23 minii7 com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (org.jivesoftware.openfire): Service only ran for 0 seconds. Pushing respawn out by 10 seconds.

/usr/local/openfire/lib is a valid directory.

Strangely, I installed Openfire on a remote server (Sierra) and it works first go. I’ve checked the install of Java JDK and they are the same and in the same location.

Running out of things to check.
