User always off-line

I have installed the Jive Messager server and psi client.

The user can connect to the server. (session connected on the server)

But the client cannot see other client On-line.

Is there any setting i forget to set.

Hi Tony,

When you’'re adding buddies are you using their full JID, i.e. @[example.com]?

Thanks,

Ryan

Yes, i use the user name with XXX@XXX.com format

User can login to the server and the server show the active user session

When i use UserA in PSI, i can add UserB to my contact list.

But the UserB always Off-line.

In the server session view, both users are on-line

I got a similar problem when some of the users registered using the IP of the server in their JID, whilest others used the DNS name of the server (eg. userA@10.0.0.2 versus userB@jiveserver.organisation.com): users could both login, but could not see each-other.

In the middle of our problem network changes were also made, causing some users to have been registered to another server-IP, and making even more of a mess. Now, we’'ve resetted everything to one DNS name, and everything works fine. Could something similar be happening at your end?

I have change all user name to xxx@xxx.com format.

But it still not works.

Any other suggestion

re-register two new users using the same domainname as the JiveMessenger server. Try to let those two users add each-other to their roster (and get permission to add each other, etc). If that still doesn’‘t work, you’'re running into something else than I did.

I have already re-registered both users.

Beside, what permission i have to set.

After i add user to the contact list, i click the Authorization to and from the user.

Is there any other step i miss to configure.

Any my jive is running on my windows 2000 professional.

Is it support?

Thanks a lot

Hi Tony,

What is the name you assigned to Messenger during the setup (you can see what it’'s set to by logging into the Admin Console and navigating to Server -> Server Manager -> Server Settings -> Server Name)? Are you using that same name when you register accounts and add contacts?

Thanks,

Ryan

I’‘m having similar issues, just having setup a server on one of my boxes. I have the server setup, I have tried using both @ip and @domain - both allow the user to login, but no one can see each other, nor can they chat with each other. Maybe it’‘s users not authenticating each other (don’‘t see an option for that), but i can’'t send messages either - they just disappear into limbo. Tried using both PSI and Pandion. Help!

Hi David,

As with Tony, are you signing in/adding contacts with the same name that you gave Messenger during the setup wizard?

Thanks,

Ryan

Hi David,

As with Tony, are you signing in/adding contacts with

the same name that you gave Messenger during the

setup wizard?

Thanks,

Ryan

I believe so. I also tried manually creating users on the Jive server, and used those user names to login with. Same issue. Maybe I’'m missing something?

No, it doesn’‘t sound like it. Are you seeing any errors in the log files? Also, be sure to triple-check that you’'re using the same name that you assigned to Messenger when sign-in and add new contacts.

Thanks,

Ryan

Thanks ryan.

When i register the user with xxx@(server name in server property), i can finally add the user in my contact list.

Since the server property field display server name.

I ignore first part of the url. As a result, i add a user that never exist.

Hi Tony,

Good to hear you got everything sorted out.

Just wanted to let everyone know I got everything on my side sorted out as well - was an issue with an incorrect resource being used. I just made everyone use the same resource and everything was perfect. On another note, and maybe this is just my non-RTFM, but is there a fast way to add all users created on a server to a specific shared group instead of having to add them individually or by user name? I’'m creating a small workgroup of about 50 users, and I want them all on the same published group. In essence, they create their own accounts, and that account is automatically added so everyone else can see the new user. Thanks.

Hi David,

In essence, they create their own accounts, and that account is automatically

added so everyone else can see the new user.

Take a look at the registration plugin. It allows you to specifiy a default group people are added to when they first register.

Hope that helps,

Ryan

Again, very helpfull. Here’‘s one final one - a bit off the topic, but I figure as long as I have someone knowledgeable helping, I’‘ll ask. Is there a Jabber client that can be distributed centrally and pre-configured? I did see that the prefs are in XML format for software like Exodus, but I don’'t see a way to preconfigure it so that when the software is sent out to my clients, everything will be set “as I need it”.

Hi David,

Is there a Jabber client that can be distributed centrally and pre-configured?

One of the commercial XMPP server companies had a client that you could preconfigure but I’‘m not aware of any free client that supports that feature, but I haven’'t really been looking for it. Most of the clients have forums where you can search and post questions so you might want to start there. You might also want to try contacting the guys over at url=Online Casino België 2024 - Beste Online Casino spellen, they offer branding and OEM licensing and could maybe help you out with doing pre-configuration.

Hope that helps,

Ryan
