Using smack within an openfire plugin

Has anyone successfully interfaced smack with openfire within a plugin?

I have a client/server application written using smack, and am attempting to move the server into an openfire plugin, and am having lots of issues because openfire does not use smack (see my post on file transfers within openfire for one).

It would make things much, much easier if there were a way to use the smack classes within openfire (for packets, file transfers, etc).

Thanks
